"Selfie": A dialogue between the past and the present

I have just finished my latest work, and first of 2025, entitled "Selfie". It is a portrait that captures an everyday moment of our time: a girl taking a picture of herself with her mobile phone. But, beyond the contemporary theme, this painting hides a deep exploration of classical painting and its relationship with new technologies.

In my artistic practice, I blend two seemingly opposing influences: on the one hand, the creation of characters through artificial intelligence, and on the other, the pictorial technique of the great masters of the Baroque such as Rembrandt, Vermeer or Velázquez. This combination allows me to explore how pictorial tradition can be merged with technological innovation to create works that connect with today's audience, without losing the depth and quality of classical painting.

In "Selfie", light plays an essential role. Inspired by the mastery of lighting characteristic of the Baroque, the goal is for the viewer to not only see an everyday scene, but to feel that they are observing a piece that could be resisting the passage of time with its visual and narrative strength.

This portrait is not just a representation of a modern image; it is also a reflection on how we see ourselves in the digital age.

With "Selfie", I want to propose this dialogue between past and present, between traditional technique and current modernity, between matter and digital. It is a work that invites reflection. Who knows if one day, in a museum in the distant future, someone will stare at this girl with her mobile phone and wonder about the world she lived in.
